Forty-five days, movers, and boxes brought down myself
An older woman was living in this house on her own, and she had reached the point where keeping up with it was no longer possible. The property was in a bad way — not through any fault of hers, but because a house needs more than one person can give it, and there had not been anybody to give it that for a long time.
We closed on the house, and then gave her forty-five days to move rather than turning the closing date into a deadline she had to meet.
Her family were in Georgia, so that is where she was going. We arranged the movers and paid for them. I brought all the boxes down to the house myself, and the moving company packed her things into them.
None of that was complicated, and none of it cost very much. It just required somebody to decide that an eighty-year-old woman leaving the home she had lived in for decades should be able to do it gracefully, and with her dignity intact, rather than in a scramble because the paperwork said so.
